有錢能使鬼推磨，沒錢生活也得過，其實有錢不一定過得好，沒錢也不一定過得不好。無論什麼時候人擁有多少的財富，都是一種物質狀態，它不絕對影響着人的所作所為，因此也沒有絕對的命好命苦的說法，主要還是看心態。

但是無論是在生活中還是工作中，運氣是真實存在的。以前三分靠運氣，七分靠打拚，現在估計得反過來了，三分靠打拚，七分靠運氣。說到運氣，首先想到的是 fortune，它尤指影響人生的機會或運氣，此時 fortune 是不可數名詞，例如：

He had the fortune to train with some of the world’s top athletes.

他有幸和一些世界頂尖運動員一起訓練。

He had the good fortune to be awarded a scholarship.

他有幸獲得獎學金。

By a stroke of fortune he found work almost immediately.

他運氣好，幾乎立刻找到了工作。

其實 fortune 跟”錢“有關，此時意為”大筆的錢；巨款“，與跟”錢“有關的不可數名詞 money 有所不一樣，fortune 是”可數“的錢，但常用作單數 a fortune，相當於 a lot of money，例如：

她繼承了家庭的一份財產。

That ring must be worth a fortune.

那枚戒指肯定要值好多錢。

當要表示花費了一筆巨款，可以用動詞 spend，cost 或 pay，有時可以在 fortune 前面加 small，例如：

旅遊旺季災難過後，企業將失去一大筆財富。

其實，除了“運氣或巨款”，fortune 還可以意為“命運或發展變化的趨勢”等，通常指涉及個人、家庭或國家的命運或發展變化的趨勢，此時常以複數形式出現，例如：

Political and financial factors will also affect the fortunes of these companies.
